Last night was the annual presentation evening for the Suffolk Vikings, who are the dry-slope race team based at the Ipswich Ski Centre. When I was 10, I learnt to ski at the slope and a month or so later I became a member of the race team. I was a Suffolk Viking for many years and it was so nice to return last night, see some new and familiar faces and present the current club champions with some awards. I also had the the chance to explain about what has happened with my own skiing and Telemark with a short speech. It would be nice to think that some of the club will progress on to do other things and hopefully the night gave them a few new ideas.
In my speech I tried to explain the role that Adele Forster (my first coach) had played when I first learnt to ski and how she encouraged me. Earlier in the year – myself, Sam Baxter and Adele run a ski-camp for some of the racers at the slope and last night they surprised me with some money that they had raised for my season. I was taken back and am so grateful – it really will go such a long way, so thank you all very much.
Here are some pictures from my presentation and our night.
Thank you to the Vikings for the invitation last night, so nice to see everyone doing so well.
