1st Place in French Cup: Auris en Oisans

Posted on:

The Telemark Club des Houches traveled a 7 hour round trip to Auris en Oisans for a sunny Coupe de France race near the famous French resort, Les Deux Alpes. Auris en Oisans was my very first telemark race and it was there that I learnt how much fun telemark racing could be.

I skied two clean runs, with no penalties as well as having the fastest ski time – so all in all, I was happy with my performance and the long drive was worth it.

I’ll be spending half the week in Les Houches, flying back home to England on Thursday for some rest and then off to the U.S.A for some skiing with the American National Telemark Team and the World Cup Steamboat Springs races.

Les Saisies French Cup

Posted on:

On Sunday we had the first French Cup (Coupe de France) race of the season – conditions were great and the course was awesome. I always enjoy French Cups, they’re great practice for the World Cups, still tough competition with the French team present but not quite as serious.

I finished 2nd overall and 1st in my age group after the first run and did the same on my second run, which was the stronger of the two, after penalties were added I ended up 3rd overall and 2nd in junior. The top 4 females that day (including myself) have all made the World Cup podium this season so it made for strong racing.

What’s next?

I travel to Rauris on Wednesday for the British Championships which are followed by the British hosted World Cup – if you’re in the area, come and join us.

Overall French Cup Champion!

Posted on:

It’s been such a sunny and lovely weekend in Tignes, the most perfect way to end the racing season. Saturday, we had the French Championship in the Dual Sprint which also counted for French Cup league points (along with all the other French Cups) I qualified in the same position that I finished the day’s racing with – 1st Junior and 2nd Overall. This picture is from the French Cup podium (as I’m not French – I can’t declare that I’m French Champion) makes sense!

Today was the final race of the season and everyone dressed up to celebrate! Such a nice atmosphere and we even had some new additions to the GB Team this weekend which was great! My team-mate Anna Morrisey did well too and finished with two 3rd places in her category, an awesome weekend for the Brits!

In today’s Sprint condition’s were slushy but I made it down in 3rd position in my age group and secured the Overall League French Cup victory! I am so pleased and feels good to have something to show for all the work.

French Cup in Les Houches

Posted on:

This week we have had a lot of snow in Les Houches so there was talk of the race being cancelled, however, we managed to pull it off but decided to run a giant slalom. It was really nice to have a giant slalom race again since it’s been removed from the World Cup circuit. Anyway, this was the race hill today – rather foggy but the snow was brilliant.

I was the Overall female winner from today and first run I had the 3rd fastest time (before penalty, I don’t know the standings after?) including the boys so I am pleased with my giant slalom progression this season. Jack Harvard Taylor also finished 3rd in his category today – so a good day for Telemark Team GB. One more set of races in Tignes to go!

Now for some powder!!

French Championships in Val D’Allos

Posted on:

Just returned back to Les Houches after travelling to Val D’Allos in the southern Alps for the French Championships. We arrived the night before the race, after getting lost, around 2:30am – unfortunately for us, we had a rather long classic to deal with!  I was feeling a bit dizzy before hand, so felt happy just to make it to the finish line – I was 3rd junior and 4th overall.

Later that day we had the qualification run for the duel sprint, which was cancelled in the end due to bad weather – so we will all have to wait until Tignes (the last race of the season) until we can continue with the race.

Ceillac & Puy St.Vincent French Cup

Posted on:

It’s nice to to be able to finally report some positive news from the season so far. I spent the past weekend racing in two French National Cups and found myself on the Overall and Junior podium both days. The first of the two races was in the cold resort of Ceillac, it was a Classic race, which was very steep with hard-pack snow. I finished with the fastest time, but not by far and my training buddy (and housemate), Madi McKinstry (USA), took the 1st place after I was penalized with three penalties. I finished 2nd in Junior and 2nd Overall that day.

The second day, it was a Sprint race (probably my slightly stronger event of the two) in Puy St.Vincent. The weather was perfect and the course was interesting, with many terrain changes and a good jump. I had a better day skiing wise and took 1st place in Junior and again, 2nd Overall behind Laura Grenier-Soliget (FRA). All in all, a good weekend of racing and now looking forward to the next French Cup this coming weekend.
